  • Almost all of this research is correlational — it shows that people with more musical skill or training also tend to have better pronunciation, but it can't fully prove that music practice causes the improvement rather than, say, both traits being linked to some other underlying ability (like a generally sharp ear for sound or better memory).
  • Sample sizes in most studies were small (often 20-90 participants), and results varied depending on the specific language pair, age group, and type of musical activity tested, so findings don't always replicate consistently across studies (for example, working memory mattered in some studies but not others).
  • Few studies tested pronunciation gains from music training alone without any language-specific instruction, so it's hard to say how much benefit comes from music by itself versus music combined with explicit pronunciation coaching.
  • Most participants were young adults or children in specific countries (Poland, China, Spain, Germany, etc.), so it's unclear how well these findings generalize to all learners, ages, or language pairs.
