How our answers are made

Last updated August 2026

Where the research comes from

Every answer starts with a live search of the published literature. We query scholarly databases and indexes — OpenAlex, Crossref, PubMed, ERIC, DOAJ, CORE, and Google Books for academic books — rank what comes back for relevance to the question, and read the most relevant papers, including full text where it’s openly available. Nothing on this site is answered from memory, training data, or the general internet.

How an answer is written

The answer is drafted by an AI model that is restricted to the numbered sources retrieved for that specific question. It is instructed to state only what those sources support, to attach a citation to every finding, and to say plainly when sources disagree or when the evidence is indirect. Where the honest answer is “it depends”, that is the answer we publish.

Citation checking

After drafting, an automated validation pass checks every citation against the sources that were actually retrieved. A claim citing a source that doesn’t exist in the retrieved set loses that citation; a claim left with no valid citation is removed entirely; and if nothing survives, the answer is discarded rather than published. The reference list on each page is exactly the set of sources the surviving findings cite — every superscript number resolves to a real, linked study.

When the evidence is thin

Some questions don’t have a solid research base yet. When the sources can’t support a confident end-to-end answer, the page says so with a visible “limited evidence” notice, and the caveats section spells out what’s missing. We treat that transparency as part of the answer, not a weakness to hide — and pages like that are excluded from search engines entirely (below).

What search engines are allowed to see

Every page on this site is hidden from search engines by default. A page becomes eligible for indexing only when it cites at least three distinct, resolvable sources, makes a substantive claim rather than only hedging, and isn’t a near-duplicate of a question we’ve already answered. Pages that fail any of those checks stay readable at their own link but are never submitted to search engines.

Human oversight

Generation is automated; oversight is human. We review what’s published, and anything that shouldn’t be public — a bad answer, a malformed question, content that doesn’t belong here — is flagged or removed by a person. We don’t invent author personas or credentials: answers are attributed to this site and this process, and this page is the description of that process.

Corrections

If you find an error — a claim that misstates a study, a citation that doesn’t support its sentence, a broken source link — email research@learnanylanguage.com. We check the claim against its source, correct the page, and update its visible “last updated” date. If an answer turns out to be wrong at its core, we withdraw it from search engines while it’s reworked rather than leaving it up.
